Aids for Blind & Visually Impaired

Links to resources for those who are blind or visually impaired

  • BibleVerses

BibleVerses.com is your accessible source to the Bible online. It may come as a surprise, but much of the web is unavailable for the visually impaired.

Over 285 million people around the world are visually impaired of whom 39 million are blind (World Health Organization). At BibleVerses.com we are pleased to offer a free version of the Bible created specifically for users with vision disabilities. Our site is optimized for screen readers and braille displays, tailored to individuals with low vision, color blindness, and any other sight impairment.

  • Deafblind Online

This website provides free software for people who are deafblind or have learning disabilities. This software can be used to enable them to learn, explore their surroundings and become more independent. Parents, carers and support staff can download the software and assist the disabled people in using the software.

  • NVDA

NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) is a free and open source screen reader for the Microsoft Windows operating system. Providing feedback via synthetic speech and Braille, it enables blind or vision impaired people to access computers running Windows for no more cost than a sighted person. Major features include support for over 20 languages and the ability to run entirely from a USB drive with no installation.

  • ScreenReader.net

Do you know someone who is blind or visually impaired? Why not help them to download free software onto their computer so it will talk to them? It is so easy ...

  • WebbIE

WebbIE is a web browser for blind and visually-impaired people, especially those using screen readers, used since 2001 all over the world. It comes with the Accessible programs, letting you access news and audio on the Internet in a simple and accessible way, allowing you to use podcasts, listen to the radio and read RSS and news with your screen reader or other access solution. Together they provide a way to access websites and other great things online - and they are all free!
